A molecular formula specifies that actual number of atoms of each element in one molecule or formula unit of the substance. The empirical formula is provided by the ratios of the smallest whole number ratios. The EF of a compound is the formula w/ the smallest wholenumber mole ratio of the elements.
Emperical formula is used with ratios that are whole numbers and are similiar to the smallest number. A molecular formula uses the exact mumber of atoms of each element. The EF is usually given in order the elements are given.
